Is your child going off to college soon and leaving the nest? You as a parent have all types of emotions like being an empty nester as this will be the longest time you have been apart since birth or even your child is going to school in a different state or even the same state but just hours away . It is not easy, but as a parent, you knew it would happen sooner or later and that everything you taught them they will now be tested.
You are probably busy trying to figure out what to buy for them to take to college. Here is a list of some essentials that they will need:
Bedding
Towel set
Wash cloths
Laundry hamper
Trunk with a lock
small safe
pillows
desk lamp
command hooks
extension cords
TV
refrigerator
lap top
extra phone chargers and boxes
utensils
toiletries
personal hygiene items
first aid kit
medicine (pain medication, allergies, sinus medication etc.)
hair care products (curler’s, comb, brush, blow dryer, flat irons, shampoo, conditioners, scrunchies)
shower caddy (body wash, lotion, tooth brush , toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, face cleanser) cleaning supplies, broom, dust pan, mini vacuum, air freshener or plugins)
and a few professional outfits.
If you have daughters, get them a self defense keychain. Even though they consider themselves grown up, have them share their location there is an app called Life 360.
Most importantly, make sure you check on them often and reassure them that you are proud of them and that you love them. This will be a big change for all of you but it will get easier and just remember God has them covered. It’s okay to cry. I’m sure you will. It might happen as soon as you drop them off. I cried before I reached home when my daughter went off to college but I was very proud of her.
